Celebrating Students in Research: Spring 2024
June 17, 2024
NCUR 2024
In April, two UREP staff members traveled with 14 students to the 2024 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Long Beach, California. Seven other Drexel students attended independently, many funded by UREP travel grants. Over the course of three packed days, students presented their work at oral and poster presentations, visited the graduate school Futures Fair, networked with fellow presenters, and even took some time to view the solar eclipse.
2024 Week of Undergraduate Excellence
UREP and the Pennoni Honors College celebrated the 2024 Week of Undergraduate Excellence (WUE) from May 20-24 with a virtual poster session, capstone presentations from seniors in the Custom-Designed Major, and more. One highlight of the week was the second annual WUE Quick Pitch Competition, which featured 21 students presenting their research, community engagement, and academic global experiences.
Congratulations to Allison Choong, sociology ’28, who was selected as the grand prize winner! Her presentation, “Safiya Speaks Up: Amplifying Voices, Empowering Change,” shared her work creating a children’s book to educate young girls on speaking up against sexual violence.
Thank you to all of our presenters, judges, and audience members for making the Quick Pitch Competition a success.
Congratulations to Our SuperNova Graduates!
Eight members of Drexel's Class of 2024 have completed the SuperNova Undergraduate Research Fellows Program, demonstrating their commitment to research and related activities throughout their undergraduate careers. This accomplishment required significant dedication, along with reflection on the impact of research on their lives.

STAR Scholars
Our 2023-24 cohort of STAR Scholars is about to embark on a summer of research! Over 120 students in the program will spend the Summer Term conducting research, scholarship, and creative work under the guidance of Drexel faculty mentors.
In exciting news, two students will participate in the re-envisioned iSTAR Scholars program, a first since 2019! They will spend the summer in Chennai, India doing research at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. We're thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity and are grateful to the campus partners who worked with our office to make it possible.
Save the date for the 2024 Summer Showcase on Thursday, August 29, where our STAR and iSTAR Scholars will share their projects with the Drexel community!
